Your appointment

We may then offer you a consultation:

  • By phone
  • Face to face at the surgery

Appointments by phone, can be more flexible. This often means the doctor or nurse can help you sooner.

Why does the receptionist ask what is wrong with me?

The reception staff are members of the practice team and it has been agreed by the Drs that they should ask patients ‘why they need to be seen’. Reception staff are trained to ask certain questions in order to ensure that you receive:

  • The most appropriate medical care
  • From the most appropriate health professional
  • At the most appropriate time.

Receptionists are asked to collect brief information from patients:

  1. To help doctors prioritise house visits and phone calls
  2. To ensure that all patients receive the appropriate level of care
  3. To direct patients to see the nurse or other health professional rather than a doctor where appropriate.

Within our Primary Care Network we now have new types of clinicians working with us such as Pharmacists, First Contact Physiotherapists, Social Prescribers – so it is important to direct your call to the most appropriate correct person.

Cancelling or changing an appointment

If you can not make your appointment let us know as soon as you can so another patient can book the appointment time. You can cancel or change your appointment:

  • Use the NHS App to cancel or change an appointment
  • Use SystmOnline to cancel or change an appointment
  • Using this online form
  • Phone us Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 6.30pm
  • Visit the surgery and speak with a receptionist. We are open Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 6.30pm

If you need help when we are closed

  • Use NHS 111 online (111.nhs.uk) or call 111. 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.
  • Evening appointments are available from 6.00pm to 8.00pm every Tuesday,  8.00am to 12.00pm every Saturday or 9.00am to 5.00pm on certain Saturdays – these vary month to month.
  • If it’s a life-threatening emergency call 999.

If you need help with your appointment

Please tell us:

  • If there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
  • If you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face-to-face
  • If you need an interpreter
  • If you have any other access or communication needs.

Home Visits

To request a home visit contact the surgery before 10.00am.

Remember that we can see several patients at the practice in the time it takes for one home visit. Patients should have their appointment at the surgery if they can.

Lack of transport is not a reason to request a home visit.
