Translation Service
We offer a Translation service to patients. The company we use is call Word360.
Word360 offers the following:
- Word360 delivers a spoken interpreter service to support patients whose first language is not English to access services delivered by their GP Practice supporting the GP registration process, practice-based consultations, management of patients in primary care including onward referral, completion of medical questionnaires, medication reviews and similar.
- If you require an interpreter, please make your practice aware at the time of booking your appointment. Your preferred language should be noted in your medical records.
- A Telephone (Spoken) Interpreter service is available on demand for same day / urgent appointments and pre-booked for future appointments. It is the first choice for short (less than 20 minutes), routine or follow up appointments.
- The Face to Face (Spoken) Interpreter service must be pre-booked, a minimum of 48 hours in advance of your appointment. It is recommended for longer appointments (20 mins+) to support appointments that may be complex or sensitive in nature, completing health checks (for example learning disabilities, mental illness, and asylum seeker health checks), or where the patient will be moving around, not stationery during the appointment (for example First Contact Physiotherapy). It is not appropriate for a Face to Face (Spoken) Interpreter to support cervical screening or similar appointments where the patient is behind the privacy curtain.
- Video / Online (Spoken) Interpreter service where the interpreter is available via video link with the patient either at home or at the GP practice. The service is available on demand for same day / urgent appointments or can be pre-booked for future appointments.
- Word360 Medical Document Translation service is available at the request of a healthcare professional within the GP practice to support clinical care and management to be carried out by the GP practice. For example, vaccination & immunisation record, test results, health screening, medical history or current prescribing for those patients moving to the UK from abroad. Also, for those living in the UK, hospital discharge letter or similar following NHS funded planned or emergency treatment abroad.
- Word360 professional, independent linguists support 350 languages and are first language speakers with experience of working in a healthcare setting and have an understanding of medical terminology.
- The Word360 service is not directly bookable by patients or available for patient self-referral.
